- When you're at the Park -

Once you've arrived at Harmony Park it is temping to run around to say hello to friends and neighbors. Indeed, one of the reasons we all come to these events is the social interaction with our extended family. Getting the party started seems like the thing to do.

Just remember that one of your first priorities should be setting up a place to live for the time you're with us. I've seen a few folks make the mistake of not getting set up right away only to regret it latter. It's no fun setting in the rain or after dark.

If you've been to Harmony Park before you'll know that the wind quite often blows at a snappy rate. You'll also be aware that, when it storms at the Park, it storms with a vengeance. All to often I've seen people either not stake their tent down, leave the door unzipped, or not install the rain fly properly, if at all. This is just begging for disaster.

Don't expect the stuff you put in your tent to hold it down. Modern tents tend to be shaped like balls and be made of light-weight nylon fabric. This fabric makes a good sail and the round shape of the tent makes it easy for the wind to blow your temporary home into Geneva Lake. There is nothing worse than trying to camp with wet gear.

If you get a scratch, cut or other wound  make sure you get proper first aid right away. When you're at Harmony Park, you're about as close to the Earth as possible. While this is good for the sprit there are critters in the soil that will get into an opening in your skin and make your Festival weekend miserable.

A good cleaning coupled with an anti-biotic cream and a bandage will help insure a comfortable weekend. If you followed the camper's checklist provided elsewhere in this web site, you've got all the things you need.

Have you ever been outdoors and notice you've developed a low-grade headache for no apparent reason? You were most likely suffering from dehydration. This is a common problem at outdoor music events.

If you're like me, the first thing you do in the morning is get coffee. While this seems to get me going, coffee is a diuretic and causes your body to loose moisture. Alcohol will also cause you to loose moisture as will anything with caffeine.

The best solution for this is to drink plenty of water. There is no substitute for good old H2O.

A good rule-of-thumb for the minimum amount of water to drink in a day is:

divide your body weight by 2 and this is the minimum number of ounces of water to drink in a day.

Don't forget to use sun screen to protect yourself from the Sun's harmful rays. Use a good brand with a high SPF and you'll be much happier.

I know, this is a lot of words, but there is one more thing we must say.

While you're at the Park, follow the rules. There aren't that many and it helps maintain the order and safety of the Park.

If you're asked to do something by our security team, please comply. The Security team is charged with enforcing the rules and their authority is final. They aren't bad people, but do take their job seriously.

If we all work together, we'll enjoy Harmony Park for years to come.

Yours in the music,

The Wizard
